Nian Yixin mimed zipping his lips shut, then leaned back in his seat with a playful grin.
“We’re here to have fun, so let’s not think about anything else. Just enjoy ourselves!” Lin Shuqian said as he turned up the volume of the car’s music to lighten the atmosphere.
“Brother Shuqian is right! Jinsui, forget all the worries—let’s party!” Nian Yixin cheered, swaying enthusiastically to the rhythm.
Nian Jinsui burst into laughter at his father’s antics and began swaying to the music as well.
“Chengyu, come on, join us!”
Without warning, Nian Jinsui grabbed Qin Chengyu’s hand and lifted it, guiding him to move along with the beat.
For a moment, Qin Chengyu’s heart seemed to skip a beat. The music faded into the background as all he could hear was the rapid pounding of his own heart. He stared at Nian Jinsui, whose face was glowing with laughter and joy.
Quietly, Qin Chengyu tightened his grip on Nian Jinsui’s hand.
By the time they arrived at their destination, it was nearly noon. The four of them first had lunch before heading to the hotel to check in.
As soon as they received their room keys, Nian Jinsui froze. “Dad, you only booked two rooms?”
“They’re two suites,” Nian Yixin clarified, trying to soothe him. “Your father and I will, of course, stay in a couple’s suite. The other suite has two bedrooms, so you and Chengyu will have your own spaces and can look out for each other.”
“Oh, I see.” Nian Jinsui let out a sigh of relief. He had been worried that he and Qin Chengyu might have to share a single room. He knew his father wouldn’t be that unreliable.
“Let’s stop standing around. Go get some rest in your rooms,” Nian Yixin urged.
Once inside their suite, Lin Shuqian couldn’t help but comment, “Xiaoxin, are you trying to play matchmaker between Jinsui and that Qin boy?”
Nian Yixin admitted it outright. “Of course! Jinsui probably hasn’t thought about Chengyu that way yet since he’s still hung up on Chu Heting. But Chengyu definitely has feelings for Jinsui. That much is clear to me. What do you think of Qin Chengyu?”
“It’s obvious that he cares deeply for Jinsui,” Lin Shuqian replied thoughtfully. “But I can’t shake the feeling that he’s quite calculating. If he ever decides to manipulate Jinsui, I’m afraid Jinsui won’t stand a chance.”
“Then let’s make him one of us. If he’s part of the family, he can scheme against others, not us.”
Nian Yixin shared his plan. “I’ve thought about it. Jinsui may like Chu Heting now, but the Chu family has so many rules. Jinsui has been spoiled by us since childhood and would suffer a lot if he joined their family.”
“But doesn’t the Qin family have just as many rules? Qin Zhuo is even stricter,” Lin Shuqian pointed out.
“Who said I’d let Jinsui marry into the Qin family?” Nian Yixin smirked, his expression uncannily similar to his son’s when feeling triumphant.
Lin Shuqian was taken aback. “You want Qin Chengyu to marry into the Nian family?”
“Bingo! That’s the plan! You know Qin Chengyu’s position in the Qin family. Qin Zhuo always weighs benefits and losses. To him, Chengyu is dispensable. Trading him for a marriage alliance with the Nian family would be a strategic move against the Chu family. How could he refuse?”
Lin Shuqian nodded thoughtfully. “That does seem plausible. But it all depends on whether Jinsui likes him.”
“Jinsui may not like him now, but he does care about him. I believe that, over time, he’ll come to appreciate Chengyu—just like I fell for you,” Nian Yixin said, clasping Lin Shuqian’s hand.
Lin Shuqian teased, “I just hope Jinsui isn’t as difficult as you were back then.”
Nian Yixin glared at him and was about to pull his hand away when Lin Shuqian lifted it and kissed the back of his hand. “But it was all worth it. Being with you makes any hardship worthwhile.”
He pulled Nian Yixin into a warm embrace. “Now that I’m back, I’ve been thinking. Why don’t we stay in the country? The business overseas is running smoothly, and with modern technology, most issues can be handled remotely. Nothing is more important than family. Jinsui has grown up a lot, and I want to spend more time with both of you.”
Nian Yixin’s heart softened, and he nodded. “Alright.”
In the other suite, Nian Jinsui was exploring the space. The two bedrooms were separate, each with its own en-suite bathroom, while the shared living room opened to a private yard with a hot spring.
Feeling reassured, Nian Jinsui thought it wasn’t much different from being at home.
“If you don’t want to share a suite with me, I can request another room,” Qin Chengyu offered, his sharp insight picking up on both Nian Jinsui’s initial hesitation and Nian Yixin’s intentions.
Caught off guard, Nian Jinsui quickly explained, “It’s not that I don’t want to share a suite with you. I just thought my dad booked a twin room for us. You’re a Beta, and I’m an Omega, so it might’ve been inconvenient to share one room. But since there are two separate bedrooms, it’s perfect. I was overthinking it.”
Qin Chengyu understood. In fact, he didn’t mind Nian Jinsui’s consideration. After all, when he had carried Nian Jinsui out of the bathroom before, the latter hadn’t treated him seriously at all. Now at least, Nian Jinsui recognized the difference between a Beta and an Omega.
More importantly, given it was the holiday season, there were no extra rooms available even if Nian Jinsui wanted to move.
Seeing Qin Chengyu’s somber expression, Nian Jinsui thought he was still upset. Trying to cheer him up, he added, “Actually, this setup is great—just like being at home. If I need you, I can call you over. It’s so reassuring!”
Reassuring?
Qin Chengyu’s eyes lit up slightly. So he could give Nian Jinsui a sense of security?
Noticing Qin Chengyu’s expression soften, Nian Jinsui thought to himself, See? You just have to praise a Beta to keep them happy.
The next day, the group headed to the ski resort next to the vacation villa. Both Nian Yixin and Lin Shuqian were skilled skiers and had booked tickets for all four of them in advance.
At the resort, Nian Jinsui emerged from the changing room in his ski outfit and immediately spotted Qin Chengyu, who looked less than pleased. Standing nearby was Nian Yixin, beaming brightly while holding several turtle-shaped protective pads.
“Dad, what are you holding?”
Nian Jinsui asked, approaching him.
As he got closer, he froze—the “turtles” were protective gear:
pads for the hips, knees, and elbows, all shaped like turtles.
